About Martin Syvertsen
(SEE-vert-sen)
Legal disputes can consume time, energy, and resources that you'd rather put toward your business, your family, or your future. Syvertsen Law’s approach is simple: understand what matters most to you, pursue the best possible outcome, and get you there as efficiently as possible.
After more than 16 years as a prosecutor and partner at a large multinational law firm, Martin founded Syvertsen Law because the cases that made him excited to come to work were the ones where he could fight for people and businesses that needed a skilled, experienced advocate in their corner — and use the skills he'd spent a career honing to actually make a tangible difference.
Martin brings a depth of experience that few litigators can match. Before law school, he explored a career in architecture and gained hands-on experience in construction and design — a background that gives him a practical edge in cases involving premises liability, construction defects, contractor disputes, and related claims. After law school, he joined the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, where he tried jury trials and hundreds of bench trials and argued before the Illinois Appellate Court. His work in the Federal Civil Rights and Torts Unit and the Complex Litigation Unit extended his trial experience to federal court, including before the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
Martin later joined a multinational law firm, where he was named a Partner and represented major contractors, utility providers, municipalities, and management companies in commercial litigation, complex business disputes involving fiduciary duties, fraud, and employment issues, and tort, premises liability, OSHA, and contract matters. He litigated — and learned firsthand how large institutions think, how they litigate, and how to beat them. Martin also gathered valuable experience at a personal injury practice refining his commitment to the basic premise that a lawyer should help make their clients’ lives better.
Today, Syvertsen Law represents individuals, small businesses, and mid-sized companies who need an experienced trial lawyer and trusted counselor — whether that means going to court or helping a client navigate a dispute before it gets there.
